OKAY Issue 3

I received Okay Issue 3 in the mail yesterday all the way from Australia. Laura McKellar is the darling who makes it. Each page is loose and printed on a different type of paper, texture , transparency. She included some awesome metallic stickers, and a handwritten note that just sent me through the roof. This is hands down the coolest thing that has come in the post. I'm hooked. Find it here

Goats in Bakersfield
YES!I'm at SVA for the month of June doing a Painting Residency, which is beyond fantastic. Having a studio is such a nice change from doing everything from a corner in my apartment. I've been doing tons of painting, but equally as much illustration work, mostly to postpone the painting, and am coming across a crisis of materials. These two mediums exist entirely separate, do I have to pick one? I think no. I'm having fun rotating the two, and have decorated my space with drawings of Walruses, Mountain Goats, and Fairy Tales.

Walrus and Mystic Babies
I would love to illustrate a substantial book of mini storiesThis is "Walrus and Mystic Babies". This is the silly story I wrote about it:
One day two children came across a walrus on their journey into the mountains. They walrus was so friendly, the children jumped up and down in delight. As if by magic they became suspended mid jump. They were mystic babies! The walrus swooned in love with his newfound magical friends. The End.

Swedish Fish Bunny Waffle
So I was google searching "Swedish Fish" because I've been expanding my Swedish Fish pattern designs, and this came up! Is this not the funniest ad ever? (At the bottom it says "A friend you can eat" it was made by JWT in New York. The whole series is just hilarious. It makes me want a bunny, and a waffle, and a Swedish Fish....

Cornelia Hediger
I went back to take down the NY Photo show last night, and got to wander through the exhibitions before they closed. These pieces were utterly striking in person. They're from the series Doppelgänger by Cornelia Hediger She is represented by the Klompching Gallery at 111 Front Street in DUMBO. Have a look at her work, it's beautifully executed, and has a great deal of dark wit. It's refreshing.

Girls in Glasses

This is the start of something HUGE and AWESOME. I've been working on a new painting series that combines natural formations of cellular structures with more concrete portraits. These are some sketches starting the kick off of my "Girls in Glasses" painting series. The first painting is nearing it's "ready to show other people" stage, and the rest of the series seems to be following suit. I'm excited, you?

Dinosaurs!

Yesterday I went to the Museum of Natural History, and spent a serious portion of my day playing in the land of taxidermy animals (which if you stop to think about it is rather creepy). I've never been to the NY one, and it was AWESOME, I spent forever in the room of biodiversity where they have thousands of different species of animals diagrammed. Then spent the remainder of the day drawing silly animals in my sketchbook and playing with the seriously awesome dinosaur stickers I got in the giftshop.
